OBJECTIVES

SJS, through the work of its members, strives to pursue the following objectives:

1.       To defend and promote the freedom of the press and expression.   

To promote a spirit of cooperation and understanding among members;

3.       To raise the status and improve the qualification and skills of all the members of the journalistic profession.

4.       To promote generally the interests of journalists and protect their rights.

To strive for the betterment of working conditions of journalists, specially salary, job security and conditions of service;

6.       To assist members, where necessary, in securing employment.

7.       To build the capacity of local journalists and work for periodic exchanges of journalists abroad;

8.       To secure representation of the journalists on national and international arenas and develop friendly contacts with the relevant organization or associations;

9.       To affiliate with journalists organizations that conform to the rules and the constitution of this Society;

10.   To establish press clubs in major Somali cities and to help the local journalists equip and maintain their district-level press clubs; and

11.   To publish official journal;
